Leeds based award-winning marketing agency, Youbee Media are thrilled to learn that they have been nominated for ‘New Business Start Up of the Year’ in the 2022 Yorkshire Choice Awards.

Youbee Media are on track to add the accolade to their business’s record after winning ‘Marketing Consultancy of the Year’ for Yorkshire in the 2021/22 Prestige Awards. The young business has already made the headlines several times since its formation in the pandemic and have been successful in their goal of helping businesses to proactively communicate in a post-covid environment. Youbee Media are conscious of their carbon footprint and have offset their emissions by investing in a scheme with Ecologi, and they make earth ethical decisions about the activities the business is involved in.

Youbee Media now represents over 32 brands, including recently established legacy charity #BeMoreMandy. Director, Rebecca Hopwood joined the #BeMoreMandy committee in December 2021, after friend and local figure, Mandy Taylor sadly lost her battle with cancer. Youbee Media manage the social channels for #BeMoreMandy pro-bono and are actively involved in encouraging positive action from the local community.

Mandy Taylor raised over £1 million for charities in her lifetime and ‘passed the baton’ before her passing. Mandy asked Youbee Media to support the newly formed #BeMoreMandy fund by joining the committee, raising awareness of the campaign, and sharing activities widely across social media.

The #BeMoreMandy fund supports children and young adults in the Kirklees area by funding projects that allow them to enjoy new experiences and make memories. To date, the fund has raised almost £12,000 for One Community Foundation Kirklees - and this total is rising as the charity will match-fund the first £10,000 raised! With the first inaugural Mandathon taking place in May, more plans to fundraise are afoot. These include an event at Mandy’s favourite place, Bibi’s in Leeds, and a celebration of Mandy’s life in September.

Mandy inspired Youbee Media to support local charity, Focus4Hope with an outreach evening in Leeds, supporting local people who are currently homeless.

Rebecca says “It’s an absolute honour to be nominated for the Yorkshire Choice Awards. We have been working so hard to build our client base, support local businesses and being able to represent the #BeMoreMandy fund online is a privilege. It’s amazing to know that our work is contributing something amazing in Yorkshire, spreading hope and positive action.”

Nominations for the Yorkshire Choice Awards close on the 31st March. Visit www.yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk to learn more about the awards, the upcoming award celebration and to vote for this year’s finalists.

Rebecca is keen to accelerate her team’s development and strives to find new ways to develop employee confidence and abilities, as well as valuable ‘soft skills’. These are just some of the factors that contribute to Youbee Media’s status as a new business to watch!

Youbee Media’s first employee was a school leaver looking to start her career in marketing. Rebecca quickly signed up to the Leeds Beckett University #WECAN programme (Women Empowered through Coaching And Networking) to develop apprentice Emma Pearson’s professional development and empower her as a female in the workplace. Rebecca says “Through my own experiences, I’ve learned that opportunities can be harder to find for women. This is partly down to their self-confidence and their own barriers. That’s why I sought out the #WECAN programme and we joined other initiatives such as ‘Reclaim your run’ to keep reminding Emma to make her mark on the world. I felt a lot of responsibility employing a young person, so I’m proud to be able to offer these opportunities.”

Why tax returns are forcing women to rethink their careers

There's a very specific moment that happens for many professional women at this time of year, and it has nothing to do with spring motivation or fresh starts. It arrives when they're doing their tax return, and what begins as a financial exercise often becomes something far more revealing. Dr Claire Kaye, a former award-winning NHS GP turned career and confidence coach, sees it repeatedly in her practice: women who sit down to work through their figures and, in the process of calculating what
