Leeds Beckett University is delighted to welcome Dr. Catherine L. Mann, External Member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), to deliver the highly anticipated Economic Prospects Lecture on 11 February. Attendees will gain insights into the Bank’s latest Monetary Policy Report, to be released on 6 February.

Catherine will address how the trade-off nexus between growth and inflation as outlined in the Monetary Policy Report presents challenges to monetary policy authorities. She will offer insights as to the disaggregated data that have informed her decision, as well as how financial spillovers can affect the monetary policy landscape.

Dr Mann, who was recently re-appointed to the MPC for a second term, brings a wealth of experience to the lecture, having previously held senior roles at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and Citibank. Her presentation will cover key economic themes, including inflation, economic growth, wage dynamics, unemployment, and interest rate outlooks.

Chairing the Q&A session will be Professor Mark Rhodes from Leeds Business School, allowing attendees to engage directly with Dr Mann on critical economic issues. John Bullock, Head of Strategic Finance for Yorkshire & the North East at Virgin Money, will introduce the event. Virgin Money has a long-standing partnership with Leeds Beckett University and has been a key supporter of the annual Economic Prospects Lecture.

Professor Mark Rhodes from Leeds Beckett University said: "We are delighted to welcome Dr Catherine L Mann to Leeds Business School. Her extensive experience and expertise will undoubtedly provide invaluable insights that will not only benefit the regional business community but also influence the UK's economic outlook on both a national and international scale, offering significant value to our students and alumni."

For over two decades, Leeds Business School has hosted guest lectures featuring prominent industry experts, business leaders, and entrepreneurs, covering a wide range of subjects including economics, finance, leadership, and management. These events are open to professionals, students, alumni, and university staff, making them an integral part of the region’s business calendar.

The lecture is open to the public and free to attend either in person or online on 11 February, from 08:45 to 10:00. The in-person session will take place in Lecture Rooms B and C at the Rose Bowl, Leeds Business School, Leeds Beckett University, with online participation also available. Online registration is required. Find more details here: https://www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/events/business-lecture-series/bank-of-england--economic-prospects-2025/
