Whatever the season, preferred interior poise or desired style of artwork, the new Abstract Land and Sea Collection by artist, Toni Thornton, are a timeless trio that make the perfect addition to any space.

On January 28th 2021, Toni Thornton launches her new collection which is a depiction of natural scenery. The artist said about her upcoming launch: “The inspiration behind the Abstract Land and Sea Collection is mainly based around rocky, open waters, pebbled shore lines and hazy mountain ravines. The world around us is such a powerful escape and there is so much beauty to be seen in these natural spaces. Within my paintings, I often aim to create a mood or tone to each piece and with this collection, I really wanted to achieve an atmospheric tone, with an abstraction and deepness that allows the viewer time for contemplation and calm.”

The trio of paintings stays true to Toni Thornton’s signature style, and not only transport you in to a tranquil haze, but represent the beauty in nature that is in the world around us.

With Toni’s clientele including celebrities and iconic interior stylists, there’s no surprise the new collection is already sought after, with a pre-launch waiting list already in place.

MIGHTY WATERS

The Inspiration: “This piece is inspired by rocky open waters and mighty seas. Created using a neutral palette of beige, stone and pale grey and anchored with black and charcoal tones, the depth within the piece really does suggest movement and a vastness to be contemplated. There are so many layers within the painting, built upon marks full of expression, but also with a calmness in the distance, to sooth and allow time for reflection when viewing the piece” Said Toni.

SILENT SHORE

The inspiration: “This piece is inspired by rocky shore lines, where the water creeps in and swims amongst the gaps on the sandy, rock filled shore. Created using a neutral palette of beige, stone and pale grey and anchored with black and charcoal tones. Although the waves suggest movement as they approach the beach, there is a sense of calm and silence, with no crashing waves, but instead, gentle, lapping waters to sooth and allow time for reflection when viewing the piece” said Toni.

HAZY RAVINE

The Inspiration: “This piece is inspired by a deep mountain ravine on a hazy day. Created using a neutral palette of beige, stone and pale grey, with black and charcoal tones, the depth within the piece really does suggest a vastness to be contemplated. There are so many layers within the painting, with expressive marks tumbling down into the depths of the ravine, juxtaposed against a calmness in the distance. The viewpoint allows time to sooth and provides the perfect space for quiet contemplation, looking ahead into the distance” said Toni.

Toni Thornton Bio
In a world of ever-growing social media interaction and home accounts, Instagram quickly became the perfect platform to showcase Toni Thornton’s designs. Toni, a qualified teacher of Art and Textiles at Secondary level, was initially asked to create a series of bespoke pieces for a new home project and since then has produced artwork for home and interior spaces and projects all over the world; including here in England, America, Amsterdam, Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain and more.

Toni Thornton Inspiration
As a keen explorer of texture and surface, Toni finds inspiration for her paintings from many sources. "Often the marks within my paintings are inspired by the very space that the artwork is to be displayed; for example, when creating bespoke artworks for existing properties, I am able to see the room, feel the space, gather inspiration and find beauty in the items already within it. This could be the knots hiding in the wooden staircase, the marble running through the fireplace, the linen allowing partial light to trickle in through the window, which set the tone for the artwork itself."

She also draws much of her inspiration from the rural land, looking at landscapes, wildflowers, and hidden bays. Each piece of artwork you see at tonithorntonart.com has been lovingly designed and created to add elegance, drama, decoration, and interest to any space. With roots stemming from mark making, textiles and surface pattern, Toni Thornton’s artwork offers abstract layers and unique compositions, each with depth and an abstraction which allows the painting to be perceived differently by every viewer.

Why tax returns are forcing women to rethink their careers

There's a very specific moment that happens for many professional women at this time of year, and it has nothing to do with spring motivation or fresh starts. It arrives when they're doing their tax return, and what begins as a financial exercise often becomes something far more revealing. Dr Claire Kaye, a former award-winning NHS GP turned career and confidence coach, sees it repeatedly in her practice: women who sit down to work through their figures and, in the process of calculating what
