Castleford care home worker wins regional care award

A dedicated Castleford care home employee has made it through to the national final of the Great British Care Awards.

Bev Blythe from Exemplar Health Care’s Fairburn Mews care home in Castleford won ‘The Care Home Activity Organiser’ award at the Yorkshire and Humber regional finals.

Bev was recognised for her outstanding dedication and work ethic, especially during the pandemic. Over the past year Bev has been particularly creative in planning activities for the residents at Fairburn Mews due to the restrictions of the pandemic. She was nominated for putting people at the heart of activities and thinking outside of the box to support people to achieve their goals.

The judges were impressed by Bev’s creativity. They said: “Bev thinks outside the box to deliver meaningful, person-centred activities to promote wellbeing and independence.”

At Fairburn Mews, Bev supports people living with a range of complex needs arising from complex mental health needs and Huntington’s disease. Her goal is to support them to maximise their independence, build their everyday living skills, and live a life as fulfilled as possible.

Commenting on the win, Bev said: “I’m thrilled to have been nominated and to have won at the regional ceremony. I feel very honoured to have been recognised for my efforts.

“Her dedication has been unparalleled, and this win just show how incredible our colleagues are when it comes to putting our residents first.”

This year’s Great British Care Awards celebrated frontline workers throughout the United Kingdom for providing exceptional care. Bev will now go on to the national finals in Birmingham in September hoping to win the UK-wide award.
