Encouraging families to donate to local food banks this Harvest Festival season

As the nights draw in and the weather turns cold, it is inevitable that we start thinking about preparing for winter months. With costs rising and finances feeling tighter than we'd like, our local community groups and food banks are proving more important than ever.

Discover Halifax is excited to announce the launch of Harvest Hampers, in partnership with local businesses and food banks around Halifax Town Centre. From 21st September to 5th November, we invite locals to donate non-perishable food items at designated Harvest Hamper locations. These donations will directly benefit our local food banks, providing essential support to our community as we head into the winter months during the cost of living crisis.

The Harvest Hampers accepts donations of various non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, rice, and pasta. As an added incentive, all children participating in our Autumn Adventures trail will receive a special sticker when they donate to the hampers.

Chloe McNeill, Discover Halifax manager commented 'we know times are difficult and that families are having to make very careful choices about spending. These local support organisations are increasingly important and this is just a small but significant way people can come together to support them'.

Discover Halifax, the initiative delivered by Halifax Business Improvement District is focused on making Halifax a vibrant and welcoming town centre. Established in 2017 and now in its second term, Discover Halifax collaborates with local businesses and key partners on events, trails, and activities designed specifically to attract visitors and boost footfall.

If you’d like to contribute, visit one of our five Harvest Hamper host locations to donate food items:

  • Brass
  • Discover Halifax Hub
  • Specsavers
  • The White Horse
  • Virgin Money
