Jazz Sabbath comes to Leeds!

Almost 30 years since they last met, Yorkshire Businesswoman editor Gill Laidler, caught up with Adam Wakeman this week to find out more about Jazz Sabbath's UK tour and their upcoming Leeds appearance at the iconic City Varieties.

Jazz Sabbath is a jazz trio that plays new jazz arrangements of Black Sabbath songs. Although the band presents itself as a jazz trio founded in 1968 and the original authors of the tracks later made famous by Black Sabbath.

Led by 2026 Grammy-winning pianist Adam Wakeman (who has been Black Sabbath and the late Ozzy Osbourne keyboard player since 2004), Jazz Sabbath explores the boundaries between jazz and the songs that defined heavy metal, revisiting existing jazz riffs and discovering new ones.

Whether or not you choose to believe their wild backstory, with three albums high in the Billboard Jazz Charts, sold-out shows worldwide, and rave reviews in both jazz and rock media, Jazz Sabbath is quickly making its way (back) to the top of the jazz scene.

Below are a few of the many reviews the band has received:

Surprisingly superb - Jazz Journal
Absolutely terrific - Jazzwise
Never has heavy metal been so groovy - MetalTalk
Spectacular renditions - Metal Injection
I really love this - Ozzy Osbourne
Amazing interpretations - Tony Iommi

"I first met Adam many years ago at an event I was involved in," explained Gill. "Adam came along to help us raise funds for Children in Need with his dad, Rick Wakeman. Both performed that night on keyboards, an experience I won't forget, they were amazing! Knowing how talented Adam, a classically trained pianist is on keyboard, I know anyone booking tickets are in for a real treat. Sadly I will miss the Leeds event on 25th May but I am hoping to get to the one in Machester in September. Tickets are on sale now from the Jazz Sabbath website or drectly from Leeds City Varieties. Hurry though as tickets are almost sold out!"
