Keighley has been invited by The Yorkshire Society to host the official Yorkshire Day civic celebration in 2022 (Monday 1st August). It will be the first time the town has hosted this important annual event since its conception in 1985.

The official celebration, believed to be the largest such event in the world, sees the county’s Lord Mayors, Mayors, civic leaders and VIP guests gather for a breakfast reception, thanks-giving service, street parade and formal lunch.

Keighley Town Council is also keen to make it a community focused event showcasing everything that is wonderful about Yorkshire, its people and Keighley in particular. More information on the plans for the event will be released in the year ahead.

Keighley Town Mayor, Cllr Peter Corkindale, said ‘We are delighted to have been invited to host Yorkshire Day in 2022. It is a great privilege to play a part in celebrating Yorkshire and celebrating Keighley. It will provide a great boost for the town’s tourism and economy.’

Philip Bell, Chief Executive of The Yorkshire Society, added “The Yorkshire Day civic celebration has become an important centerpiece of the county’s annual celebrations and provides an important economic boost to the host town or city. We know Keighley will make the most of it and look forward to working closely with them”.
