Following on from Yorkshire’s success last month at Kelvingrove Museum and Gallery, at the 2025 awards ceremony held in Glasgow, which saw Forge at Middleton Lodge adding an eighth Michelin star to the county’s haul, Michelin Guide for the UK & Ireland has just published a list of their best pubs across the region.

Among them is The Plough, Wombleton, run by Richard and Lindsey Johns which was included in the world-renowned Michelin Guide in January this year for the first time.

Michelin’s review of The Plough remarks: "It’s located in the adorably named village of Wombleton, which sits in the hinterland between the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills, both brilliant areas for hikers with a fondness for spectacular scenery. The cooking is exactly what you’d expect to find here, in all the best ways, with straightforward dishes providing ample flavour and coming in generous portions."

Introducing the list of Yorkshire hostelries the guide writes: "What better way to enjoy the area than with some traditional Yorkshire hospitality? Using the best of the local larder in their delicious dishes – and in some cases also offering superb accommodation – each of the following pubs is run with genuine care and pride."

The Plough, Wombleton features alongside several carefully selected Inns from right across ‘God’s own country,’ with establishments from Nun Monkton; Crayke; South Dalton; Leyburn; Halifax; Harome; Byland; Great Ouseburn; and Hawnby also featuring,

Richard and Lindsey said: "We were totally over the moon to be included in the 2025 Michelin Guide, to now feature in a Michelin list of Yorkshire’s best inns is the icing on the cake, especially after recently featuring in the 2025 Estrella Damm list of the UK’s Top 100 Gastropubs for the second consecutive year."
