Join the forthcoming Gliterary Lunch celebrating great books, lovely food, interesting venues, interesting people – and of course, a glass or two of fizz remain the vital ingredients of a Gliterary Lunch.

At each lunch a compelling award-winning author talks about their book and inspirations, and then answers any questions from the Chair and guests. Their next guest is author Sebastian Faulks.

Sebastian Faulks has enjoyed literary and commercial success with his all-consuming books and unforgettable characters. From historical novels set in France, including Birdsong, Charlotte Gray and The Girl at the Lion d’Or to the more contemporary A Week in December, he is an award-winning storyteller.

The Book
1914: Young Anton Heideck has arrived in Vienna, eager to make his name as a journalist. When he encounters Delphine, he is entranced by the light of first love and feels blessed. Until his country declares war on hers.

1927: For Lena, life with a drunken mother in a small town has been impoverished and cold. When her dreams of life in Vienna disappear, she takes a menial job at the snow-bound sanatorium, the Schloss Seeblick.

1933: Anton, now an established writer, is commissioned by a magazine to visit the mysterious Schloss Seeblick.

Sweeping across Europe as it recovers from one war and hides its face from the coming of another, SNOW COUNTRY is a landmark novel of exquisite yearnings, dreams of youth and the sanctity of hope. In elegant, shimmering prose, Sebastian Faulks has produced a work of timeless resonance.
