A care home manager in Wakefield has been nominated for an award in one of the care sector’s most prestigious awards.

Marsha Tuffin from Lofthouse Grange & Lodge in Lofthouse has been shortlisted in the Registered Manager category of The Great British Care Awards Yorkshire & Humber region - a series of regional events throughout the UK that celebrate excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

The 21 award categories represent all areas of the social care sector, whether it be older people or specialist services, residential or home care. From frontline staff such as care workers and care managers to people who have made an impact in other ways such as training and innovation.

Marsha has worked in the care sector for the past 29 years and joined Orchard Care Homes in February 2020. She has previously been shortlisted in two categories of the National Dementia Care Awards, winning the Dementia Personality of the Year Award. She has sat on many steering groups, written publications and won six national awards in dementia care and was awarded the Royal Patron Award by Prince Charles in 2012 for her contribution to care.

Asked how she felt about being shortlisted, she said “I am absolutely delighted. I am passionate about caring for older people and believe that good, person-centred care is reflected in the positive outcomes achieved for each resident.”

The winners will be announced at the 2020 National Finals which, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, will be held virtually on 30th October 2020.
