EmpoweredLS12, a female-led and independent fitness gym, is celebrating its rapid growth with the opening of a new, larger facility in Wortley. The gym, which specialises in strength training and weightlifting, opened its doors to the new space in October.

Founded by personal trainer and coach Marni Sharp in 2021, EmpoweredLS12 began with the mission of introducing women to a more sustainable, long-term approach to fitness.

Initially operating out of a modest storage unit in Armley, the gym quickly garnered a loyal following through its signature Ladies That Lift programme. The programme offers small-group weightlifting classes and personalised coaching designed to help women of all ages achieve their fitness and lifestyle goals.

The gym’s growth reflects not only the increasing demand for female-focused fitness spaces but also the sense of community that Sharp has cultivated among her members. The new facility, located off Tong Road in Wortley, will provide even more space for women to train, connect, and build their confidence in a supportive, empowering environment.

Marni commented on the expansion: "The growth of EmpoweredLS12 is a testament to the incredible women who have joined us on this journey.
“Our aim has always been to create a space where women feel strong, supported, and confident. This new facility allows us to reach even more women and continue to foster that positive, inclusive community. It’s more than just fitness – it’s about empowering each other, both inside and outside the gym."

Polly Cheetham has been attending EmpoweredLS12 since 2021, she said “In the three years that I’ve been going to EmpoweredLS12, I’ve not only changed how I view fitness and my body image, but I’ve built my confidence, made life-long friendships, and become a strong role model for my daughters.

“The impact that Marni and the gym has had on my both my general wellbeing and my life is immensely positive. EmpoweredLS12 is such a safe space to train in and a lovely community to be a part of.”

Lauren Robinson, another gym-goer and longstanding client of Sharp, added, “Marni has cultivated an incredible atmosphere at EmpoweredLS12. Since training with her, I’ve improved my physical fitness, strength, and mental well-being.

“The emotional support, encouragement, and friendships I’ve made a huge difference in my journey. EmpoweredLS12 truly goes beyond just being a gym—it’s a community, and Marni is at the heart of it all.”

EmpoweredLS12 serves over 80 women, and as part of the gyms’ commitment to fostering a positive experience, all new members are welcomed into a community-focused group, where they receive guidance not only on strength training but also on building the confidence to reach their full potential.

With a growing team of dedicated trainers and an expanded range of classes, EmpoweredLS12 is poised to make an even greater impact on the fitness journeys of women in Wortley and beyond.
