Bellway Homes has maintained its commitment to girls’ cricket in Driffield by sponsoring the girls U13 team at Driffield Town Cricket Club (CC) for the third consecutive season.

The national homebuilder, whose Yorkshire division is currently building on the town’s Bridlington Road, first got involved with the team (then U11s) in 2022 and has seen the side blossom to the stage where they now compete in the all-boys East Yorkshire Junior Cricket League and have only lost one game all season. And that was to their biggest rivals, the Driffield U13 boys team!

Paula Murdoch, Bellway Yorkshire’s sales manager, said: “Our aim with any new development isn’t simply to build new homes – we’re here to create new communities, and Driffield Town CC is the heart and soul of the town.”

“We’ve watched with great pride at how the girls’ team has developed since we first got involved in 2022. With the end of the junior season fast approaching, we’ve got everything crossed that they finish the league in a blaze of glory and go as far as they can in the national ECB Girls U13 T20 cup they’re into the semi-final of.”

Driffield Town CC is the only club to have an all-girls team in the U13s league, and this season also has an U11 team playing in their age group league as well – and winning far more games than they’ve lost.

Andy Desmond, Driffield Town CC’s treasurer, said: “Grassroots cricket really is thriving in Driffield; from our senior sides right down to the youngsters getting involved in the sport for the first time this year. We’re immensely proud of just how many girls are playing and enjoying the sport. And the level of performance from the U13 and U11 teams really is providing an inspiration for those starting out and, hopefully, for those who are thinking about playing but haven’t taken the plunge yet.”
