New law office opens in York

Leeds-founded law firm Consilia Legal has opened a new office in York, strengthening its specialist family law and mediation services across North and East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire coast.
The riverside office will be led by York-born family lawyer, mediator, and collaborative law specialist Sam Sinclair, who has joined the firm to advise clients going through separation, with particular experience helping individuals with complex financial arrangements achieve resolutions through out of court settlements.
The expansion gives Consilia Legal a stronger footprint across Leeds, Harrogate, York, Scarborough, Bridlington, and the coast, at a time when more clients are seeking specialist family law advice through private dispute resolution processes.
It will also deepen the firm’s links with North & East Yorkshire business owners, professional advisers and families who need specialist legal or mediation support through relationship breakdown whether in relation to their finances or children.
Sam brings extensive experience in family law, mediation, and collaborative practice. She strengthens the firm’s existing dispute resolution offering, alongside head of the team, Laura Clapton, who is a leading family mediator and a trained child consultant, enabling her to support separating couples who want to resolve issues constructively and, where appropriate, ensure children’s voices are heard within the process.
The team’s work includes matters involving business interests, trusts, property portfolios, pensions, and overseas assets, as well as mediation for couples seeking to reach agreement outside court.
Sam Sinclair said: “York is home for me, so opening Consilia Legal’s office here is particularly special. Many clients want to resolve family issues privately and constructively, especially where there are businesses, property, pensions, or wider family interests involved. My aim is to help people move forward with clarity, dignity and as much control over the process as possible.”
“The new office will allow us to support more clients in York, Scarborough, Bridlington and across the wider region, while working closely with trusted professional advisers where families need joined-up guidance.”
Laura Clapton, director said: “Opening in York is a significant milestone for the firm and a natural next step in our growth across Yorkshire. Sam has an outstanding reputation for combining technical expertise with a calm, practical, and empathetic approach.”
“We are seeing increasing demand for specialist family law advice from clients who value discretion, careful planning, and alternatives to court. The York office builds on our Leeds roots and established presence in Harrogate and London, while making our services more accessible to clients across North and East Yorkshire and the coast.”
The launch follows continued growth for Consilia Legal, which was founded in Leeds in 2014 and has developed a regional and national client base while retaining a boutique, partner-led approach.
The firm advises on family law, employment law, and mediation, with particular expertise in complex family and financial matters where privacy, strategy and sensitive handling are important.
