Colour analysis is a like a forgotten art that can be taught so precisely and will be personal to you. This may sound scary at first but please don’t think I am just going to come and tell you to dress like an exploded rainbow of bright colours. My aim is to not only teach you what colours compliment you the best but also how it can reflect an emotion or change an emotion. It literally is all in your mind. Mindfulness comes from within and by even just adding a colour to your outfit, you are halfway there.

Given the current situation in the world, this could be the perfect time for you to experiment. If you ever wanted to try out a colour you weren’t sure of, now is the time to go for it. Your mind wants to be challenged. How many of you are just reaching into your wardrobe feeling unmotivated and pulling out dark colours to put on all day? This is because darker colours such as black symbolise sadness and wearing it for the whole day, especially at the moment, will make you instantly feel miserable. You will notice yourself not only feeling more tired throughout the day but also just feeling a bit drained. Darker colours do that to your mind.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing dark colours. But what I want to teach you very quickly is how you can elevate that to give you that extra boost of positivity over this lockdown period and how you can feel more motivated. This doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy a new wardrobe. By using accessories such as jewellery, scarves or even just a lipstick, it will have the same effect as a coloured top.

A top tip that I learnt was if the colour reflects onto your face somehow, it is doing the right job.

When you open your wardrobe, I want you to think about what mood you want to be in. Maybe you want to have a day just to relax and chill out . Instead of reaching for black, go for a blue or a purple as they stimulate your mind to feel instant calm and serenity. Like the blue sky or the sea, blue is a soothing colour so will give you a stress relief as if you were at a spa, which you will also notice are also blue or a purple.

We can also turn that completely around because maybe you want to have a motivated day where you want to get up and do loads of things. Wearing a red or any of the ‘red family’ like a pink or an orange will give you that boost to get up and go. Red stimulates your mind into thinking you are going into action, and will be found on people who want to have that little bit of a confidence boost. Likewise, pink and orange have the same values but are a bit softer in colour, and can be more wearable to some people. They are all elevated colours so will put you in an elevated mood for the day.

These are just some examples of some of the most powerful changes you can make, but the world of colour is huge and there is always something new to learn.
