What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

Capsule wardrobe is a term coined by Susie Faux, the owner of a London boutique called "Wardrobe" in the 1970s. According to Faux, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that do not go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces.

I like to think of it as a well-thought-out wardrobe, it’s about changing buying habits and not impulse buying. Purchasing items that are versatile and will see you through seasons and last for years. Not buying in to trends, investing in the best quality you can afford. A capsule wardrobe should be made up of good quality, versatile pieces that you can wear repetitively. It is made up of items that you love to wear. Its fundamentally a carefully selected collection of clothes that wont go out of style, that can then be mixed in with seasonal pieces.

How often do you buy new on trend pieces but then revert back to those old favourites? Do you go to your wardrobe and feel like you have nothing to wear? A capsule wardrobe is the perfect solution.
Investing in a capsule wardrobe is one of the smartest things you can do. It ensures you will always have something to wear and that you wont get bored of your wardrobe. You will shop smarter and save money because you’re not buying into the latest trends and clothes you don’t wear. When you open your wardrobe in the morning you won’t struggle with what to wear.

I really believe every woman’s wardrobe should begin with a great selection of great quality basics. Which is why I love a Capsule Wardrobe. It's a wardrobe made up of good quality, versatile pieces that you can wear repeatedly and that don't go out of style.

Everyone is different so everyone’s capsule wardrobe will be different, different styles and colour palettes, its definitely not a case of “one size fits all’. We all have different lifestyles, budgets and style.

A capsule wardrobe for me is about having a wardrobe full of clothes I love and making my wardrobe work hard. Everything fits, can be matched with multiple other items, nothing gets saved for best and I always have something to wear, whatever the occasion.
