Singing star Michael Ball is coming to Huddersfield for a ‘Picnic at the Proms’-style event at Almondbury Wesleyan Cricket Club this summer.

The Harmonies & Hampers event takes place on Sunday June 16 2024.

Securing one of Britain’s leading musical theatre performers is a massive coup for Almondbury Wesleyans, which held similar but smaller-scale picnic concerts in 2021 and 2022.

Concert promoter and club committee member Mark Binns said there were many eyebrows raised – with some assuming it was a tribute act and not the real Michael Ball.

It’s genuine and Mark said: “I was able to secure Michael through a contact of mine who knew his musical director Callum McLeod.

“Michael has been on tour but he wasn’t doing anything in the summer and this is a nice little gig for him, relaxed, informal and fun.

“I never thought we’d be able to secure Michael Ball or anyone of his stature but if you are ambitious and have a track record of doing these things well you can pull it off.”

Tickets for club members were quickly snapped up and now they are on general sale – and it could be your one and only chance to see him locally.

“I can’t imagine Michael Ball will ever come back to Almondbury in his life!” said Mark.

Michael will be supported by special guest Jenna Lee-James, fresh from ‘Frozen’ in London’s West End.

The event runs from 3.30pm to 6.30pm and the audience is invited to bring their own chairs, blankets and picnics. Parking will be available on the day.

Around 2,000 tickets are available on www.seetickets.com and they are expected to sell out. Ground Admission Tickets are priced at £59.75 (plus booking fee) or VIP Packages at £149.75 (plus booking fee). PARKING IS FREE.
